February 6, 2011 – Telvent GIT, S.A., a leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced today that it has formed a strategic alliance with Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER) to provide the industry’s most advanced solar forecasts to generators and distributors of solar power. AER is a member of the Verisk Analytics (Nasdaq:VRSK) family of companies.
Many U.S. utilities already rely on Telvent’s top-ranked temperature forecasts to predict energy demand. By aligning with AER, Telvent also now provides customers with the most advanced solar forecasts, making it the single-source load forecasting resource for solar power generators and distributors both in North America and around the world.
As utilities increasingly incorporate solar power into their energy portfolios, they need to know how and when rapidly-changing weather variables like cloud cover will impact solar power supply. Telvent’s highly accurate solar irradiance forecasts — powered by AER™ SolanceTM technology — incorporate cloud cover forecasts based on real-time satellite imagery, providing utilities with critical insights into fluctuations in supply*. This proprietary forecasting technology enables utilities to harness solar power in the most cost-effective way and minimize the costs associated with variable resources. The result: better informed power marketing decisions as well as improved smart grid efficiencies and reliability.
According to Telvent’s Chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, “Solar power is a fast-growing market with unique requirements that only the most sophisticated real-time information providers can address. Telvent is proud to lead the industry in terms of solar forecast accuracy, which helps our clients realize considerable savings.”
Telvent’s near-term forecasts are site-specific and more informative than numerical weather prediction data alone. Customers can feel confident that their load-forecasting decisions are based on rigorous and scientifically-advanced algorithms and software simulation models. This new addition to Telvent’s suite of energy-focused weather solutions is available in North America and internationally.

February 1, 2011 – Telvent GIT, S.A., a leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced today that its agriculture brand, DTN/The Progressive Farmer, is partnering with Precision Laboratories to add their Mix Tank application to its online product offering.
Using multiple chemicals in one application is a common occurrence; producers use mixtures to overcome weed resistance issues, as well as save time when multiple products need to be applied to a field in the same time period. An incorrect mix could lead to over- or under-application of active ingredient, resulting in crop injury or non-performance issues. Using the correct mixing sequence is also key for compatibility purposes; a non-compatible mix can lead to clogging problems resulting in difficulty pushing the mixture through the tank’s spray lines and nozzles.
Using the Mix Tank app, producers can find the correct sequence for crop protection tank mixes to ensure effective use of all chemicals. In addition, they will save time and money with the ability to easily mix multiple products and eliminate application problems.
The Mix Tank application eliminates guesswork for producers and provides consistent results. Over 900 crop protection products from over 17 manufacturers are included in the application and users can select up to 19 products from the following categories: herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, foliar nutrition and adjuvants. Jim Reiss, vice president of agricultural chemistries at Precision Laboratories says, “An improper mix can cause lost time and money. By using the Mix Tank app, users can get the most out of every tank mix.”
According to Telvent's Chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, “Telvent is committed to innovation in the agriculture industry and helping producers make the best decisions for their businesses. The partnership between DTN/The Progressive Farmer and Precision Laboratories reflects our commitment to providing expert knowledge to our customers.”
The application is available as part of a subscription to DTN Grains Professional. To subscribe, visit www.dtntheprogressivefarmer.com. | | Choose Media: |

January 30, 2012 – Telvent GIT, S.A., a leading real-time IT solutions and information provider for a sustainable world, announced today that the 4th Annual Urban Mobility Conference and Expo (UMI 2011), organized by the Urban Institute of Transport and promoted by India’s Ministry of Urban Development, has awarded MCGM with the Best Smart Transportation System Project Prize in recognition of Mumbai´s new traffic control project, an undertaking in which the company has been involved in project development.
This project has enabled improved traffic speed in Mumbai, yielding a 10% increase, and a reduction in delays due to bottlenecks occurring on the road network of 17%. Furthermore, as a product of the lower consumption levels of the LED-type light signals employed, the project has led to energy savings of up to 40%. These advantages will help make Mumbai a more sustainable city by reducing problems resulting from air and noise pollution, alleviate traffic congestion due to motor vehicles, and increase user safety by lowering the number of traffic accidents.
Telvent has implemented the city’s Traffic Police Control Center; a data center via satellite installed in the Control Center of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), in addition to the ITACA (Intelligent Adaptive Area Traffic Control) system that enables real-time information from 253 intersections to be gathered and administered. Through this technological support, MCGM operators will be able to monitor potential incidents occurring throughout the road network, empowered with faster and more effective responsiveness to unforeseen events, and carry out preventive system maintenance.
According to Telvent Chairman and CEO, Ignacio González, “We are proud to have worked with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai on developing the traffic control center for the city of Mumbai, which has not only enhanced mobility in Mumbai, but also led to a considerable reduction in Mumbai’s energy expenditure and pollution levels as the result of more effective management of the city’s road infrastructures.”
The 4th UMI, revolving around the theme of “Sustainable Mobility”, took place December 3-6 in New Delhi, and included, under the auspices of the United Nations Center for Regional Development (UNCRD) the 6th EST Asia Forum (Environmentally Sustainable Transport Forum), enjoying participation from more than 20 Asian countries. Defined as a forum of encounter and debate on sustainable transportation-related options, measures and technologies, the conference awards a total of ten prizes to acknowledge good practices in urban transportation projects, including the Best Mass Transit Project and Best Integrated Multimodal Transportation System awards. | | Choose Media: |
